Lady Noir had a fabulous fashion show last week and i was lucky enough to be up front with my trusty Nikon D80 and SB600 flash. The flash was set up to bounce off the ceiling which was nice and low for a club (the even was held at a trendy new place in San Francisco called Apartment 24). The only downside of this location was even though I was on the guest list the bouncers were total douchebags, and I almost missed the runway portion of the show. That being said I did finally get in and shot the show, kudos to Sharon for organizing it because it went very well and the crowd really loved it. Great models, good clothes and a real runway. I’d really like to see more indie clothing focused fashion shows as it provides something fun and different for people to see and do. Fashion shows should not be reserved for high fashion and there should be more stuff that anyone can buy. Feel free to ping me if you are doing one, and of course invite me Here are a few select photos, you can see the full set on flickr here.

UPDATE: thanks so much everyone, we found this pretty quickly, it’s a company called Identity Malien this is a link to their store and this T-Shirt which is called Jawless

Well it was bound to happen sooner or later, but I got this delicious T-Shirt in the mail with no identifying information except it was fulfilled by Merchline who of course have hundreds of stores. I’d love to find the company that made it, anyone recognize it? I’ve got a $25 Threadless Gift Certificate for anyone who provides me a lead that results in me finding these guys (doesn’t count if it’s the company that sells it gets in touch with me). Anyway, i’ve worn this design once and got just a tonne of comments on it, so i’d love to promote these guys.

Cheers,

He made himself a hoodie when he was in college and when wearing it on Haight St a woman from Complex magazine stopped him and asked him where he got it from, when he said it was his own creation, she asked what his clothing line was called, when he said he didn’t have one, she said he should, and the rest as they say is history.

Beijing, China - Adorable and innocent — if a tad infantile — the five Olympic mascots, known as Fuwa, have been winning the hearts of children globally.

Lesser known is that the saccharine Fuwa characters were not the first choice of the Olympic organizers, who considered adopting characters more representative of modern China. Headline Shirts has acquired exclusive sketches of three of the would-be mascots. They include Beibei the Rights-Abusing Panda, Jingjing the Monk-Impaling Tibetan Antelope, and Yuyu, a swallow who brings good luck wherever she flies — and who also directs a murderous organ-harvesting campaign against the Falun Gong.

Hey all, I could not resist buying this T-Shirt from Ffee clothing the other day, and having purchased it for my own personal consumption I had not planned on reviewing it as I have a bunch of samples waiting for my attention. That being said, when I opened the package I was so impressed I had to take some snaps and post about it.

The T-shirt came in a really nice canvas bag, with a rough string tied in a bow, and once you opened the bag you found the T-shirt (obviously), a sticker, moo-card, and water pistol. Sure it doesn’t make the T-Shirt any better (although Ffee stuff is very nice, labeless, soft, an uses water based inks), but it made the experience that much more memorable. Talking about memorable two other companies that stood out when I got their packages were Johnny Cupcakes and Oddica, check them out. Any of you guys have any T-Shirt/clothing companies that stood out through their packaging?

On a slightly different topic, I’m sorry i’ve been a bit MIA recently but things have been getting crazy busy this month. Just to give you a snippit, ‘m going to be teaching a course at the Academy of Art University in Social Media (so i’m putting the curriculum together), speaking at the Inverge Conference in Portland at the beginning of September (putting a presentation together), trying to get a line of T-shirts printed (talking to designers, artists, licensing, contracts etc.), trying to get a press pass for the Magic Conference in Las Vegas for August 25th to 27th, oh and I have a full time job, oh and how about trying to maintain a social life. Anyway, if you have emailed me, sent me samples, or invited me to your facebook group I may not have responded, so forgive me.

When I first saw these Star Wars Election ‘08 T-shirts on Zazzle I wondered who was going to get their ass sued off by Lucas Film, until I noticed that the store was an official Lucas Film store, and there are others like this Clone Wars store, and this classic Star Wars store. So it would seem over the last few months come pretty big companies have woken up to the wonder of print on demand like my recent story on CNN printing headlines on shirts (which was Spreadshirt BTW).

It seems that Zazzle that I used to put in the same category as Cafe Press is demonstrating quite a distinct strategy aiming for big deals like merchandise for Myspace, Lucas Film and Disney as opposed to catering exclusively to mom and pops. Probably a very smart move from a business standpoint especially when you think about the marketing reach of really big properties.

Related: A “The USA Today” article on Zazzle’s deals with Lucas Film

I think this is an incredibly interesting graphic that would make a stellar T-Shirt. Unfortunately I have no idea of the origin, does anyone know what designer did this? I found it randomly from a friend on Plurk. If you havn’t checked out Plurk it’s a new service that is sort of like a combination of Twitter and chatrooms which makes for interesting threads especially around images and videos. It’s worth checking out and feel free to add me as a friend.

UPDATE: Thanks to Maja in the comments have tracked down the designer of the graphic, it was Julia Hoffman for Mens Health magazine.

I was reading HideYourArms the other day and came across this article where some brilliant designers have started putting together a list of 15 Awful Mistakes Made by Designers in the Music & Apparel Industry (here’s part 2 with the next 5). This is a must read for any T-Shirt designers, and IMHO anyone who is looking to hire designers. I’ve been working in and around the design industry for a long time and I can tell you that the points brought up in this article are right on. They’re not about style or technique, there about the business of design./

On a lighter note, if you are a long time reader you may remember my post about the Design-Police.org and their nice little design critique sticker set.

I think some T-Shirt designers could use some things like “Unoriginal idea” “Over use of beer pong” and “Remove arrow pointing at penis”.
