Retro Microsoft T-Shirts from Microsoft, Clothing Line Called Softwear

In what appears to be an attempt to get some retro charm, and harken back to the good old 80′s when Microsoft was cool… really. Well whatever, the shirts are kind of geeky and probably charming to some :-) Apparently this is part of the Crispin Porter & Bogusky advertising strategy to make PC’s cool again ala it’s “I’m a PC” campaign. Not a bad strategy, but IMHO Microsofts problems are beyond it’s image, everything is moving onto the cloud google’s web based applications are providing real alternatives to Microsofts cash cow, Office. Anyway, here are the shirts and they will be in stores December 15th, anyone provides some photos that I use of these shirts in the wild, or in stores I will send you a $25 Threadless GC, cheers.

Chillin’ Productions Saturday August 2nd at 111 Minna, SF

If you are in SFO mark your calenders for Chillin’ Productions for clothing, fashion, design, art and live music at 111 Minna, San Francisco. This is always a great event and I always find new stuff there so it’s totally worth checking out, it’s much more of a party atmosphere than a lot of the events that sell crafts etc. and seeing as it’s been going on for 10 years I think they have the formula down, there is of course the dynamo Irena Hernandez behind it as well which I’m sure is one of the secrets of their success. Check out my previous write up of the show.

Last time I was at the show I met these beautiful divas from Beefy Rouge (unfortunately they are still working on their web site)

Also don’t forget you can bring some items of clothing with you to get screenprinted at the show by the crazy guys from San Franphsyco, here’s a shot of them hard at work at the Haight St Fair (I run into these guys everywhere)

Chillin Productions Redux

Chillin Productions was over a week ago and I owe it a write up. By far one of the best fashion/design/art event i’ve been too. The art was so high quality and diverse, the clothing and t-shirts were awesome and unique, and other features like live screen printing and the 10 DJ’s made it an afternoon/evening to remember. I met Irene Hernandez-Feiks who founded Chillin’ Productions at a party the week before and after that experience had to check it out because she is an amazing character (she was even DJ’ing some of the event).

I met lots of great people there and have to tell you that is becoming one of the funnest parts of writing this blog, going out and meeting the people behind the designs. There is so much going on in the indie fashion and t-shirt world things are very exciting.

Wear Me Naked

I loved Wear Me Naked, these are all hand painted and sewn shirts, with awesome designs and quirky condom pockets (they also do underwear with the condom pocket, sweet)

Indie Industries

I was also a big fan of what Indie Industries was doing. These guys are an artists collaborative which sell all kinds of indie merchandise with real stores. The stores in fact are probably best characterized as cool and authentic, kind of what Urban Outfitters wishes it could be. (I saw a much wider selection of stuff in person than I do on their site) so it might be worth checking out the store. They are at 2003 Milvia St. @ University Ave, Berkeley, CA 94704 open Tues – Sat 12-7, Sun 12-5, closed Mon. Don’t believe me, check out their 5 star reviews on Yelp :-)

The Evolution of the T-shirt from Gelf Magazine

If you only do one thing today go and read this article on the history of the T-shirt from Gelf Magazine.

Whether you choose to admit it or not, chances are a critical reserve of self-esteem rests somewhere near the middle of your T-shirt drawer. For within this darkened, hidden quarter lies dormant a secret weapon so witty, so elusively allusive, or just so damn hip it finds itself swathing your chest on only the most important occasions.

Choose Wisely!

Here’s another quote from the article from George Carlin’s “Coolest T-shirt Trap” in his 1997 volume of random musings, Brain Droppings:

There are times when you take 15 minutes to pick out which shirt to wear, because you’re going to a place where they’ll be a bunch of guys you’ve never met…and you think, ‘No one has ever seen a shirt like this. This will make them jealous’…then when you get there, no one cares at all. And all of the other guys turn out to be dorks who will wear any piece of shit that’s handed to them. Like ‘Property of Alcatraz’ and ‘Life is Beach.’ What a letdown.

New Patagonia Organic Cotton T-Shirts

Patagonia

Patagonia is one of my favorite companies in the world, seriously, they totally rock, amazing quality, great attitude, great service. I’ve bought a fair amount of outdoor gear from them for snowboarding and hiking and it’s always super well made stuff. Anyway, now their doing a line of organic cotton T-Shirts.

Our T-shirts are made with 100% organic cotton and are garment-washed for softness. They’re built to last with taped shoulder seams and double-stitched sleeves and hem. Our surf tees (shown above) have a slim fit and feature the artwork of Geoff McFetridge. All Patagonia organic T-shirts are recyclable through our Common Threads Recycling Program sends us yours when it’s no longer wearable.

5 New Katamari Damacy T-Shirts From Panic

The only officially licensed Katamari Damacy T-shirts are sold by a small mac software development shop named Panic Software, I just got a note this morning that they have 5 new shirts. Apart from the new designs they’ve also added some printing innovations like “shiny” and “fuzzy”, i’ve included an image from both types:

Tommy Johnson T-Shirt for a Good Cause

Tommy Johnson

Tommy Johnson was an influential delta blues singer who lived between 1896 and 1956. Anyway, as with many blues legends his influence was not really appreciated until many years later. The story is that the road to his grave site has disappeared over the years so there is no way to get to his grave to place the headstone or to allow visitors/pilgrims easy access. Anyway, the foundation is selling t-shirts to try and raise money to get the headstone placed and the road reclaimed. Anyway, they don’t have online ordering or anything but if you go to the foundation page and email or call their phone number tell them you want a shirt i’m sure they’ll sort it out.

So it’s a bit of a family affair here, my sister (a talented artist) posing in the picture, and here’s a video of my Dad playing one of Tommy’s songs “Maggie Campbell”

Link for feedreaders

and here’s the gory details from the press release.

TOMMY JOHNSON FAMILY DENIED RIGHT TO PLACE HEADSTONE
THREE YEARS AFTER DEDICATION. —- MISSISSIPPI TOUT$ BLUES HERITAGE BUT TAKES NO ACTION TO AID FAMILY.

Three years after The Mount Zion Memorial Fund and the family of Tommy Johnson unveiled a headstone memorial in Crystal Springs, in 2001, the 600 lb., beautifully engraved, granite slab still sits in the Crystal Springs Library, miles from the cemetery where Johnson is buried.

The Copiah County Board of Supervisors, charged by law with maintaining the Warm Springs Methodist Cemetery because of its official historic status, has denied all access to the cemetery where dozens of African American gravesites are located, by refusing to reclaim a road which was “given” to a local farmer under dubious legal circumstances.

For the last three years the Mount Zion Memorial Fund has worked with Vera Johnson Collins, Tommy Johnsons niece, through a series of legal roadblocks and delays and the State of Mississippi, fully aware of the situation, has done absolutely nothing.

The “Year of the Blues” has come and gone, and the Tommy Johnson Memorial, paid for by Ms. Bonnie Raitt, has remained on display at the Public Library, in mute testimony to the true history of Mississippis racial nullification, failure and neglect.

The Mount Zion Memorial Fund and the family of Tommy Johnson is asking that any and all groups or individuals who would like to support the effort to place Tommy Johnsons headstone on his grave and to re-open this historic cemetery please write Governor Haley Barbour at P.O. Box 139 Jackson, MS 39205

And demand that the State of Mississippi intervene immediately to correct this moral wrong and to finally do something honorable to get right with the Blues.

More T Vicar – Best Name For a T-Shirt Store Ever

More t VicarProbably the best name for a T-Shirt store i’ve seen, I love it. Not only that but it’s a store that includes local artists creations, every month they commission exclusive designs from local talent and limit the designs to 100 items. You can see all the design in the area of the site they call “the collective“.

The designer Mr Bingo emailed me telling me about the store, and here’s one of his designs.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Mooninite T-Shirt from Raplica.com

Athf

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Mooninite T-Shirt is of course inspired by the storm in a teacup that has been created in Boston due to some severe overreactions by the powers at be. Essentially a marketing company put up some battery operated “lite brites” on various landmarks (in several cities), LED graffiti if you like as a marketing campaign for the new Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie. Well these were up for several weeks, until finally someone in the MTA noticed them and called in a bomb threat. Chaos ensues. Two words folks, Adult Swim.

Freedom Call from threadless

Threadless Freedom Call

Freedom Call is a beautiful new design from threadless, reminds me of the T that made me fall in love with threadless in the first place and that was flowers in the attic (request a reorder if you click through, i’d love to see this reprinted).

Line Rider Version Of Dick in a box

Line Rider is an amazing flash based game/tool/time waster that allows you to draw lines on this flash page that a little guy will then “ride” on a little toboggan, often with tragic results. Well the scope of these little games can become quite ambitious and it this version it’s essentially another parody of the SNL Dick In A Box bit that I talked about previously.

Scr-Emo T-Shirt from Threadless

Scre mo 425

I know everyone was asking me to smile in my last pic, well how about a scream. This is an awesome shirt called Scr-Emo. I also like the other Emo joke Tee called Emo-ticon.

Petrolcide – from bant-shirts.com

Petrolcide

Now this is a really great design, it may be political in it’s aims but it also expresses the feelings of many consumers when they’re standing at the pump filling up. The shirt is called Petrolcide and is screen printed on cotton, and is made sweatshop free, in the US. Apparently they also have it on hoodies if you are keen on hiding your arms :-)

A T-Shirt For anyone that got a wii for christmas

Wii Shirt Large 01

For all those folks lucky enough to get a wii this Christmas here’s an aptly, although a little broadly named the Tii Shirt. Looks like it’s from a new company called See Colon Slash, although thankfully it’s printed on nice American Apparel (although what isn’t these days), and as it’s in preorder right now they must be doing some decent printing. Kind of like the unofficial t-shirt of WiiHaveAProblem.com.
