Time Magazine has nominated the Hug Shirt as one of the best gadgets of 2006. The t-shirt allows people to send your t-shirt a virtual hug via sms from your cell phone and the fabric of the shirt will then embrace you and make you feel like you’re being hugged.
The description sounds mind blowing:
The shirt then re-creates that person’s distinctive cuddle, replicating his or her warmth, pressure, duration and even heartbeat.
From what I understand the sms goes from phone to phone and then the receiving phone sends bluetooth to the Hug Shirt.

im terrified. what if it malfunctions? heat? pressure? what if it goes haywire in the rain and bakes you while strangling you to death? what if you get prank called? what if all of a sudden your shirt starts molesting you? hmm.. do they make jeans?

Technology will never be able to replace emotion. Same pressure, temperature, etc. notwithsatnding. The memories that arise with the familiar scent of someone we know well, the new scents that we experience when we get to know somebody, can not be replicated. Neither should they. A computer cannot experience this. Human behaviour cannot be reduced to one set of figures. Good luck with your research, I am always ready to admit I’m wrong.

“Never” is a big call, especially with the rate technology is progressing.
All our experiences, the basis for emotion, is simply electrical impulses created by the sensory organs and interpreted by the brain. It is perfectly feasible for these to be replicated or synthesized, some time down the track.

This makes me sad.
First cell phones and then text messaging replaces actual face-to-face conversations, and now we even have a technological substitute for hugs.
I don’t get how it would work anyway, but it’s still depressing that someone actually thought of this.
yeah all of you that you are near your beloved ones , tell me that hug t-shirts are bad.. man put your self in my possition that im at 15.ooo km from my gf.. if you were in my position everything like that sounds good.
That would be frickin’ SCARY.
