in the shadows

shadow hostageIn light (or dark) of the recent tragedy at Virgina Tech, I’ve chosen to feature Amorphia Apparel’s Shadow Hostage tee; designed by Jeremy Kalgreen.

I find it a little uncanny that the color scheme of this shirt are also the V Tech school colors.

About this shirt and this moment in history that seems to be becoming an all to common occurrence:

What exactly is going on with our culture?

Is it the fire arm ridden, artery spewing video games; designed by our own armed forces, that encourage violence such as campus massacres? Is it the permeating sense of despair that billows out of tvs and radios every hour on the hour that convinces our frightened friends that there is no way out beyond a selfish and exploitative demand for one’s promised 15 minutes (complete w blood-stained press kit)? Could it be screamo-emo-goth-punk-core-metal with their harsh chords and lyrics oozing with despair? Could it be the uber-gore genre of film that seems to be rearing it’s monstrous head and storming hipster-ized theatres across the nation?

Could it be tshirts with stark images of self loathing and despair such as this one?

Could it be that we’ve become so distracted by all the other things that we’ve forgotten the value of eye contact, a hand shake, a smile or a hug?

It could.
