Design Will Save The World is a sensibility that I can dig, I think design could save the world, but only if designers focus on what is important. As Victor Papanek said in his ground breaking book “design for the real world” (published in the ’70s):
There are professions more harmful than industrial design, but only a very few of them. And possibly only one profession is phonier. Advertising design, in persuading people to buy things they don’t need, with money they don’t have, in order to impress others who don’t care, is probably the phoniest field in existence today.
Vegas Party Update:
I’ve realized I can convert my threadless points to gift certificates, i’m thinking a $50 gift certificate for the first 40 RSVPs, still looking for bars/venues that can host 50+ people for a little open bar action in Vegas, suggestions welcome.
